Criteria for admission to Little Eaton Playschool

We welcome children regardless of their gender, special educational needs, disabilities, background, religion or ethnicity.  We will liaise fully with parents and professionals to ensure that it would be in the child/ren’s best interests to attend the playschool;

Your child will be offered a place at the playschool in the term following their second birthday if there is space available. Sessions are offered according to the criteria in the following order of priority;

  1. Funded 2, 3, and 4 year olds already attending.

  2. Looked after children, children with EHCP and children with SEN.

  3. Funded 2, 3, and 4 year olds on the waiting list.

  4. Non-funded 3 and 4 year olds on the waiting list.

  5. Non-funded 2 year olds on the waiting list.

  6. New applicants.

Within the above criteria, each application is always considered very carefully on its individual needs.

Early years funding for 3 and 4 year old children

All three and four year old children are entitled to a free part-time early years place at a nursery or pre-school before they reach school age. Free early years places are funded by Derbyshire County Council using central government money.

15 Hours a Week Free Early Years Funding

Children are entitled to 15 hours per week of free entitlement for a maximum of 38 weeks a year from the term after their third birthday.

We endeavour to be as flexible as we can in how your child’s 15 hours of free early years education are taken to fit in with your needs, subject of course to the availability of sessions.

30 Hours a Week Free Childcare Extended Entitlement

From September 2018, the Government launched its extended early years offer for eligible working families who could double their early years’ entitlement to 30 hours a week for 38 weeks a year.

Little Eaton Playschool is taking part in this extended offer and is providing a limited number of 30 hours a week places to working families in the local community. Due to operational costs, children with extended entitlement (upto 30 hours), wanting afternoon sessions, must use all 3.5 hours (12.30-4.00pm).

Parents need to apply for the 30 hours a week entitlement via the Childcare Choices website and then supply us with the 11 digit ‘DERN’ eligibility code they are given.

Lunch Club

Our Lunch Club provides a relaxed environment and is an opportunity for those children attending to learn good table manners and further develop their social skills. It also supports them in their transition to primary school.

Lunch Club is also a great way for children to get used to enjoy eating with their peers. Once the children have finished their lunch, there is time to enjoy a story or another activity.

We feel passionately about promoting healthy eating at our playschool. We therefore ask parents to provide a healthy packed lunch for their child including a drink, ensuring that their child’s lunch box contains a refreezable ice block to keep food cool.

Please note that we are a permanent “nut-free zone” and the packed lunch must not include any nuts, or anything containing nuts or nut products.

Little Eaton Playschool receives funding for a maximum of 38 weeks a year within Derbyshire County Council’s term dates. Although we are an independent setting, we try to follow as far as possible the term dates set by Little Eaton primary school. However, our term dates do not always exactly coincide so sometimes our terms may start a little later or end sooner than the primary schools. Additionally, the playschool may occasionally be open on a day when the primary school is closed, for example on one of their inset days. Please see the boxes above for confirmation of our current term date.
